Alluring sophisticate: 75 Verdon Street, Williamstown, 3016

An exemplar of what makes Williamstown period homes some of the most beautiful in Melbourne, this Victorian dame really struts her stuff, whether through stunning period detail and architecture or via her contemporary-chic revamp.

And the neighbourhood ain’t too shabby either: Williamstown Beach and high school are a five-minute saunter away, and a three-minute car trip has you in Nelson Place cafe precinct and on to The Strand waterfront.

75 Verdon Street, Williamstown, 3016

Beyond a breathtaking lacy and graceful façade, entry is to a floorboarded hallway which is flanked by three fitted and floorboarded bedrooms, a charming lounge room and the first of two bathrooms.

Four of these rooms have fireplaces, while the luxe bathroom has gorgeous tiling in greys and a lovely green, an oval freestanding tub and all-glass shower.

A separate alcove with a spiral staircase rises to the fifth loft bedroom with skylight and floor planks – this is a space that any teen would love or an artist or hobbyist could claim as a studio.

The second bathroom is across its own short hallway from the fourth bedroom which has a fireplace, plus a concrete floor – making it “indestructible” for perhaps a younger child (or children – it’s certainly big enough).

Concrete also anchors the expansive step-down living hub where deep skirts and sash windows (many with transoms) salute the original heritage.

The step-up kitchen in here, with an arched window and designer splashback tiles, has white stone benches and cabinetry, as well as all the mod-cons.

A large separate study adjoins the family-sized laundry which includes a dedicated wine storage room.

Striking lightfittings are a feature throughout, wall paint is light-bouncing white and windows are dressed in streamlined charcoal roller blinds. The innate charm is … everywhere.

The living hub opens via a glass door to the backyard lawn where sun is filtered through a couple of old trees, brick paving runs across the back and down the side and the lawn has good space for kids and pets to play. This is a cracker place … don’t miss it.
