An American on Ford: 71 Ford Street, Newport, 3015

The American craftsman style, a toned down version of the arts-and-crafts movement, inspired this recently built residence.

As it is similar in style to Edwardian architecture, this property blends seamlessly with the streetscape. Attention to detail ensures most would not know it is a reproduction property.

71 Ford Street, Newport, 3015

Enter to a generous hall with a double-height feature foyer.

The floorboards are stunning – narrow Queensland red gum sealed with a matte varnish. The floors feature throughout the living areas.

All wet areas are stand-out with imported Spanish tiling adding a Moorish feel, yet still offering clean lines and modern finishes. The tiling is set against frameless glass showers, black tapware and feature walls.

In fact there are imported finishes throughout which hint at this property’s arts-and-crafts inspiration and resulting in a country-contemporary feel.

There are four bedrooms, the main bedroom at the front of the house. It is carpeted, with soaring ceilings and three double-hung replica sash windows beautifully crafted and one of the many reasons this house’s age is so hard to detect.

The bedroom is complemented by a huge walk-through robe with great storage and it leads to the fantastic en suite.

Three further bedrooms have sliding barn-style doors, and are off the hall. Imported from the US, the doors add a point of difference.

The central courtyard incorporates a lawn and under-cover deck with timber ceiling detail, accessed by concertina doors and another set of matching aluminium double-glazed doors from the hall opposite.

The kitchen is massive, and has Carrara marble splashback tiles, deep composite stone benches, soft-closing matte country-modern cabinetry and quality appliances. The lounge room is heated by a wall-set gas fireplace although there are hydronic heating panels in every room – the decorative wood store is a nice touch.

There’s a second living room at the rear that could be a great children’s playroom, a teenager’s retreat or a media room.

This is a true forever home, set on a beautiful street in the heart of popular Newport.
