Beautiful Art Nouveau: 100 Railway Crescent, Williamstown, 3016

The ornate and striking facade of 100 Railway Crescent, with origins in the Victorian-era, is part of an architectural movement which still held popularity in the early 1900s.

Art Nouveau influences within this Queen Anne-build are used to great effect by way of large and ornate timber flourishes, influenced by the curves of nature. Here is a property of high drama and romanticism, just as the architect would have wished it.

The return porch features twin doors at opposite ends, traditionally one was used for everyday use, the other for receiving guests.

The formal entry has soaring fretwork, pressed-metal ceilings with ornate cornices and high skirting boards.

All rooms have split-systems and original fireplaces, save for the main bedroom that has an operational reproduction fireplace within the original surround.

Original Baltic floorboards throughout look new despite their age and have been sanded and sealed with a matte lacquer.

The two front rooms have been transformed into beautiful and large bedrooms with built-in robes. The soaring, highly ornate pressed metal ceilings are a delight to behold, as are the bay windows in each room – the main bedroom has the larger of the two and has a window seat with storage.

Floor-to-ceiling built-in robes have been installed.

The large en suite has high-end finishes and on-trend styling. It’s placement, behind a door that blends seamlessly with the wardrobe doors, creates a hidden room of sorts, adding an almost magical element that fits perfectly with the mood of the house.

The main lounge room has fitted storage, a gas heater and views of the croquet lawn next door.

Two further bedrooms follow, with a decor that complements the rest of the house.

A sleek, open-plan kitchen and dining room is at the rear of the house, past
which is the main bathroom/laundry and .

The sizeable backyard has a period-style shed, charming cubby house, lawn and entertaining area. Rear access is a distinct advantage.
