Blackshaws redemption: 195 Blackshaws Road Newport

Blackshaws Road has gone through a metamorphosis.

New builds line the road from start to finish, possibly due to its proximity to Newport Lakes and Newport’s town centre. The 1950s era shopping strips are now tenanted by artists, cafes and restaurants. Newport’s popularity has left no street untouched by the march of culture.

This property is a perfect example of the new face of this well-known road. It’s in the middle of it all and is sleek and modern. Large white high-gloss tiles have been chosen throughout to provide a sense of space and the striking white-on-white decor feels almost futuristic. The outdoor spaces bring nature back, creating a balance that is understated and low-maintenance living personified.

As you enter, the first of two living rooms in this clever floor plan is to your left, followed by the main bedroom which has its own private and functional mini-courtyard. There’s a walk-through wardrobe that leads to the en suite. French doors in the bedroom open out to the courtyard space, giving it a sanctuary feel.

Two further carpeted bedrooms follow, both with built-in wardrobes.

A family-style laundry, bright central bathroom and a powder room are off to the right.

Immediately before the main living room at the rear of the property there is a contemporary study space with a custom-made desk that receives plenty of natural light.

Through to the open-plan kitchen/family-meals space and the kitchen has stone benchtops, stainless-steel appliances and plenty of storage. It overlooks the inviting second living room that is flanked by dual courtyard spaces which adds to the sense of spaciousness.

By creating the main outdoor space to the side of the property, the builders have used every square-inch of the block.

This property is a study in modernism. Executed well, modernism thrives. Here is an example where it works well, where there is no waste and where clean lines make way for an easy life.

With evaporative cooling, ducted heating, split-systems, water tank, a single remote-controlled garage and off-street parking for a second car, all of the essentials have been taken care of. Quality finishes are the perfect end note.
