Edwardian excellence: 81 Oakbank Street, Newport, 3015

The embodiment of the “nice things come in small packages” adage, this single-fronted Edwardian and its block of nearly 250 square metres have been treated beautifully – not just in terms of space maximisation but also the overall aesthetic.

And the location? Mighty fine: Greenwich Reserve and The Strand waterfront are a five-minute amble away; Westbourne Grammar is within a two-minute zip in the car; and restaurants and shops are also in the neighbourhood.

The top storey of the house is entirely dedicated to the grey-carpeted main bedroom, which is under a plaster vaulted ceiling and has white plantation shutters on windows. The covered timber deck out back, sheltered by bistro blinds, is a fab entertaining/relaxation space. It looks out to a paved area flanked by a pair of underplanted ornamental trees, with two steps heading up to a thriving lawn. Laser screens are on the fence and a shed is tucked to the side.

This is a property that salutes a smaller footprint while underscoring the benefits of such. It’s a goodie …
