Great expectations: 25 Elphin Street, Newport, 3015

High-end detail and innovative choices set within a traditional facade create spaces custom made for a design-savvy family.

With plenty of nods to the Scandinavians, fashion-forward black powder-coated steel, tapware and cabinetry complement marble finishings. On-point details frame comfortable family-friendly spaces.

On a practical level, the house was returned to studs and re-built from the ground up by a builder as his family home, so the quality in construction mirrors the quality of the fit-out.

The facade provides a perfect first impression with a clean dove grey and white exterior.

Gorgeous shingle detail and the double gabled pitched roofing are set against a brick-paved driveway and deep square front porch with timber decking evoking a country feel.

Timber hardwood flooring throughout, builders-white painted walls and 3.5-metre ceilings set an appealing scene.

The main bedroom has hydronic heating, a walk-in wardrobe and en suite with double-length frameless shower, with beautiful finishes. Sash windows have all been restored.

The formal living room has a gas fireplace with grey matte marble surround. French doors lead to the front porch.

Bedrooms two, three and four follow, all with hydronic heating and dove grey carpeting. Two have built-in wardrobes.

The main bathroom has a marble-topped bespoke vanity with twin basins, geometric-style marble tiling, bath and heated towel rack.

From there, the extension begins – and it’s this main living space where a wow-factor really comes to the fore.

The kitchen’s soft-closing matt black cabinetry is set against a marble waterfall bench and a true butler’s pantry – it’s over-sized (with, sink, loads of creative storage and big enough for two fridges and the microwave) and styled beautifully.

A second gas fire warms a large living space with dining nook and stunning floor-to-ceiling black-framed glass walls opening to the entertainer’s deck, the lawned area bringing nature into view.

The property has single garage and a carport with dual entry, leading through to a concreted area for multi-purpose use.

Here, great expectations are met.
