Stylish makeover: 8 Pearson Street, Williamstown, 3016

One of Williamstown’s many fab period dwellings, this completely revamped Edwardian satisfies the widespread millennial itch for both en pointe contemporary and century-old romance.

In support of the romance factor are high ceilings, picture rails, a corbelled arch, timber (white-painted) dado panels and leadlight features.

Wall paint is crisp white, carpet in bedrooms is grey, floorboards anchor living spaces, and boarded wall accents are positioned for maximum decor impact.

One of those boarded walls is in a bedroom off the living hub. Others along the entry hall include one with serene blue-green wall paint and white plantation shutters; the other with apple-green walls, designer accent wallpaper and white plantation shutters.

They share two bathrooms, the main with stunning full tiling, matte-black tapware, floating vanity and walk-in shower. The other, accessed from both bedroom and rear brick patio, is stylishly treated with subway tiling, walk-in shower, boarded wall accent and enclosed toilet, as well as laundry facilities.

An open study is also along the hallway, before the open-plan living domain emerges. One zone is a charming lounge room with leadlight window and designer lightfitting (among others); the other, abutting the kitchen, is the dining area with another designer wallpaper accent.

Under a gently angled ceiling, the kitchen has matte-black tapware and sink – matching the cabinetry – and timber benches, as well as a cooker under a matte-black canopy rangehood.

Ducted heating and evaporative cooling offset the seaside climate.

Multi-paned french doors, as well as a cute reclaimed slider, open to the patio, around which runs a timber deck with a large wooden seat on which to plonk cushions. The space is intimate but big enough for a family gathering – and, because it fills the backyard, the mower can be stowed.

Adding to undoubted attractions, the pretty house (with that gorgeous blue front door) is in a top spot: a three-minute saunter from the Strand and Bay Trail West; four-minute drive from Nelson Place eateries; and five schools, including sought-after Williamstown High School, less than one kilometre away.
