Sublime transformation: 13 Cecil Street, Williamstown 3016

Built in c1909, this Edwardian has been transformed, via the brilliance of Seddon’s renowned Basset Lobaza Architects, into a dazzling contemporary home. The beauty of period detail is celebrated in the front bedrooms before the architects pulled out all stops and a stunning metamorphosis emerges.

The entry hall, laid with engineered oak flooring and showing off a corbelled arch, deep skirts and stepped cornices, leads past two beautiful bedrooms, a powder room and the laundry. The street-facing main bedroom, with original fireplace, has walk-in and built-in robes, and an utterly chic en suite with walk-in twin shower and black tapware.

The other two fitted bedrooms are up top, the timber staircase leading there a design statement in itself. They flank a living room (with desk) and share a sleek bathroom.

The spectacular living domain struts a beautiful concrete floor, designer lightfitting, a wall of bespoke cabinetry and large black-framed windows dressed in drifty white sheers. A gas log fire is flanked by a long, low-slung ledge for perching or display purposes.

The gorgeous sophisticated kitchen has seamless soft-close cabinetry, a butler’s pantry, a Dekton-topped island bench with undermount sinks (with Insinkerator) and all mod-cons including a pyrolytic wall oven.

Out back, a gleaming pool and spa and a strip of lawn is rimmed with glass fencing, while paving provides space for setting up lounges and potted beauty. Nestled at the back, a pavilion, with TV, is the spot for a post-swim barbecue.

Ducted heating, refrigerated cooling and slab heating, plus video security, are included.

Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park is at street’s end, and Nelson Place eateries (Porters and Ragusa Republika have many fans), are a short amble away.
