Tale of two eras: 59 Ford Street, Newport 3015

We’re generally familiar with A Tale of Two Cities but this excellent abode is a tale of two eras – both very alluring. Kerbside, it’s all about classic California bungalow – although that beautiful sky-blue door and designer verandah tiles hint of a design poise, which subsequently reveals itself in a superb indoor display of contemporary pizzazz.

The four large fitted and grey-carpeted bedrooms are along the entry hall where engineered oak floor planks flow through a door and into the living domain. The main bedroom, with the same plantation shutters as in others, has a walk-in robe and a sumptuous en suite.

Both bathrooms are glam showpieces, with gorgeous tiling, and angled ceiling glass beaming light onto the tub and twin shower in the main bathroom, and in the shower area in the en suite. Brushed nickel tapware and dual-basin vanity feature in the en suite, matte-black tapware in the other. Wow.

The living hub kicks off with a carpeted open lounge room, with a sleek powder room and good laundry across the way. Up next is the family-dining space with a soaring square-set ceiling, and full-height windows dressed in white sheers.

An Elba marble island bench matches the splashback in the all-class kitchen, which also has a butler’s pantry, seamless 2pac cabinetry, Grohl tapware and Bosch appliances.

Ducted heating and refrigerated cooling, accompanied by double glazing, keep indoors comfy, while summertime out back looks inviting, with a cool drink upon a timber deck easily pictured.

A good wedge of lawn, fence-screening leafiness and a small shed fit right in out here, and earning a solid tick is the home’s deep rear (timber-lined) eave offering passive-solar protection.

The bushland oasis of Newport Lakes Reserve is a 10-minute saunter away, as are the station and Newport Lakes Primary School. Coffee and brunches amid Mason Street’s mix of shops, is the same distance.
