Themed entertainer: 27 Bell Avenue, Altona ,3018

By Samantha Freestone

The bell miner, a beautiful south eastern native bird with green, black and yellow markings, is the namesake of Bell Avenue – in fact this development is colloquially known as ‘the birdcage’ as all the streets are named after birdlife.

This property has been transformed by an eclectic couple with a penchant for fun and their style is perhaps almost as full of colour as the bell miner itself.

Their stamp on this German engineer-built late 1970s property cannot be denied and will suit a creative couple who love to entertain.

Parquetry flooring on entry is set against heavy-set raw silk curtains – also found in the second bedroom – together with timber-lined exposed beam ceilings with colonial-style light fittings. It’s all reminiscent of a grand dining hall.

Renovations include a library area, timber feature walls and a games room-cum-study with all of the tech-inspired colour and light display you could imagine.

Walk through this property and experience what can only be described as a kaleidoscope of themes, referencing movies such as

Harry Potter (the powder room in the garage has a ‘platform 3/4’ motif and fit-out) and Alice In Wonderland in the kitchen where the hot pink, high
gloss cabinetry has to be seen to be believed. Chequerboard flooring and splashbacks make a striking contrast. Inclusions are a Belling three-door cast iron hot pink oven with induction cooktop, an integrated Smeg dishwasher and a two-door Smeg fridge.

Bedrooms two and three have been transformed into a generous main bedroom with a huge walk-in robe and en suite.

Every addition is high-quality and full of life. From the wallpaper, to the tiling, the curtains and the appliances, everything is the very best.

The main bathroom features a stunning copper freestanding bath with matching twin hand basins, intricate Moroccan-style tiling and a large shower.

There is a 19th century birdcage set in the second bedroom, a possible nod to the development’s nickname. This room also has a wall mural depicting dragons and a forest scene.

Outside, find two separate courtyard areas, one accessed from bedroom two.

The second paved area has a tiki bar and spa area.
