Karen exhibition

The From Within We Grow exhibition, showcasing the cultural heritage of the local Karen community, will be launched at 2pm on July 30 at Altona’s Joel Gallery. The free exhibition grew from workshops hosted by artist Anuradha Patel at Laverton’s Woods Street Arts Space. It runs until August 10.

 

Collaboration conversation

Join economic journalist Alan Kohler in conversation with Australia’s chief scientist and entrepreneur, Dr Alan Finkel, to explore the role of collaboration and incubators in fostering innovation and new enterprise. The Victoria University ‘Game Changer’ conversation will be held from 6pm Wednesday, August 10, VU at MetroWest, 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray.

St John history

Footscray Historical Society will host a free talk on the history of St John Ambulance with Stewart Granger, Footscray divisional manager of St John Ambulance, 2pm Sunday August 14 at Ercildoune, 66 Napier Street, Footscray. Afternoon tea provided.

 

Slam heat

A local heat of the Australian Poetry Slam will be held at Braybrook library from 5.30pm on Tuesday, August 2.

 

Family violence

A panel discussion will explore how to support women from culturally and linguistically diverse communities who are experiencing family violence. From 6-8pm Wednesday, July 27, VU at MetroWest, 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray.

Laughter Club

Cherry Laughter Club meets 10am Saturdays in the barbecue area at Cherry Lake in Altona. The free club, hosted by Carolyn Nicholson, aims to promote good health through laughing.
