Altona Meadows couple Marek and Hanka Frankowski, both in their 70s, tied the knot on Sunday after 43 years together.
Mr Frankowski, who also celebrated his 78th birthday on Sunday, got down on bended knee with a flower from his garden to propose.
“He went on one knee and said, ‘Could you marry me,’ Mrs Frankowski said.
“I said, ‘Huh, are you joking?’
“He said, ‘No, I don’t, I love you, I want to marry you, I want to be always with you, don’t leave me, stay with me.’
“So, what can you say. Yes! I’ve been waiting 43 years for that.”
Mr Frankowski said he realised he couldn’t survive without her love.
“She’s my nurse and secretary and cook and everything,” he said.
The couple wed in a modest ceremony at Le Viviera pizza restaurant in Point Cook.
