Art show attracts wide range of entries

Artists from around Australia have submitted works for this weekend’s Hobsons Bay Art Show, which opens with a gala preview in Williamstown on Friday.

More than 450 artworks will be displayed at Seaworks Maritime Museum in the 38th annual art show hosted by the Rotary Club of Altona.

Colac artist Michelle Ives submitted three lino cuttings.

Her works are an A4 lino cut peacock in vivid violet titled Cock of the Walk, a small piece with two fish called Coy Koi, and her favourite, ‘Scarlett Morris’, which is a lino cut of a William Morris wallpaper pattern.

“It’s such a fantastic locale to exhibit my lino cuts and let my babies out into the world,” Ms Ives said. “I’m very lucky to have a fellow artist friend and mentor, Kirsten Dunkley, who gives fantastic advice and encouragement, as I haven’t been lino-cutting for very long.

“Since giving up full-time work to spend more time with my two young boys, I’ve had the time to explore my creative side. It’s my dream to one day support my little family from my artwork alone and I’ve just created my etsy [online] store, LittleMissLinoCut.”

The Hobsons Bay Art Show opens 6.30pm, Friday, at Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown. It’s open Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories with the best work in show Piggott-Higgins Prize paying $2500.
