Here’s 9 things to do in Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay

In focus

Williamstown Camera Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a free exhibition by members at Williamstown library until the end of July. Founded by Trevor Young, 89, the club has nearly 100 active members. It originated from workers at the naval dockyard. The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Walker Close Community Centre, 180 Millers Road, Altona North.

Ballet in Altona

The National Theatre Ballet presents two performances of Mosaic at the Altona Theatre on August 11. The show, celebrating classical ballet, contemporary dance and flamenco, will be performed at 1.45pm and 6.30pm.

Tree Day

There are plenty of opportunities to don your gloves and boots and join in National Tree Day this Sunday. Plantings will be taking place 10am-noon at Stony Creek on Paramount Road, West Footscray and 2-4pm at Cruickshank Park, Yarraville. Friends of Newells Paddock will hold its spring planting from 1-3pm Saturday, September 5.

Cab tales

The Sun Theatre will host a screening and Q&A on Wednesday, July 29 for the new Australian film Last Cab to Darwin, starring Michael Caton and Jacki Weaver. The film will screen at 6.30pm, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session with Caton and director Jeremy Sims.

Stereo stories

Celebrate a mix of music and memoir with Stereo Stories at Victoria University on Thursday, July 30. Stereo Stories combines personal stories and popular songs, featuring writers and musicians sharing stories of pathos, humour and love with doses of jazz, soul, pop and rock. Starts 7pm. Community classes

Classes are beginning soon at Yarraville Community Centre, including Bollywood dancing, Japanese, French, Italian and Spanish, digital photography, creative dance for kids, hip hop and cooking workshops.

School reunion

Altona North Primary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a reunion on Sunday, August 23. Past students, staff and parents are invited to an afternoon tea from 1.30-4.30pm, with finger food and drinks supplied.
