A short film tracing the story of a Footscray icon is hitting the big screen as part of one of the world’s oldest film festivals.
Olympic Nick: A Donutumentary, the story of Nick Tsiligiris and the hot jam doughnuts he has sold at Footscray station since 1979, has been selected to screen at the Melbourne International Film Festival.
Co-director Ian Tran said it was an exciting and unexpected honour to have the first film he had made selected for such a prestigious event.
“I remember about 25 years ago as a kid I was having a pretty tough day and I stopped for a doughnut and he gave me some for free,” he said.
“It was such a simple act of kindness but it always made me think I wanted to be like that and to repay it one day.”
Olympic Nick: A Donutumentary will screen August 11 and 14.
