An art project telling the stories of the Yarra River is about to end its journey in Williamstown.

Scenes on the Yarra, the brainchild of Jeminah Reidy, is a community art event featuring live performances and installations along the water’s edge.

Attendees will meet in Williamstown on Sunday, February 28, before being led on a two-kilometre walk accompanied by artists.

Reidy said this was the last chance to witness the event, which began four years ago.

“This will be the ninth location along the Yarra,” she said.

Scenes on the Yarra has meandered its way down the Yarra River from the headwaters to the sea, to its final destination, Williamstown.

“The audience will be led on an extended walk, two kilometres one way, starting at Seaworks with our destination at Point Gellibrand.”

Participants will be entertained by 18 performers including dancers, installation artists, musicians, storytellers and puppeteers.

“The project seeks to connect us to this river and discover the forgotten stories and history that gives this river and the land its significance,” Reidy said.

People are invited to meet at 2pm at Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown. No bookings are necessary. No dogs will be allowed. Details: www.scenesontheyarra.com
