Spotswood’s Peter Max is passionate about cars, motorcycles and people. He speaks with Goya Dmytryshchak.
What’s your connection to Hobsons Bay?
I’ve been here about 14 years. I’m a member of the Williamstown Motorcycle Club, which is pretty good. It’s just a group of people that go motorcycling together and it’s a nice little group, it’s a good club. And we wander down to the Spotswood RSL occasionally.
What do you love about Spotswood?
Spotswood is down to earth. It’s not full of yuppies and it’s not full of university graduates. I think it’s a little gem. It’s so close to the city and it’s between everything and it’s a really lovely place to live. If I had my chance I don’t think I’d go anywhere else. It’s an oasis.
What would you change?
I’d like to see a couple more restaurants in Spotswood.
What are you passionate about and why?
Motorbikes, cars and philanthropy. Motorbikes are better than women because you can put them in the garage and leave them there – I’m only joking, of course. I would like to be a comedian – I’m serious. It’s a dream of mine that I’d like to be a comedian. I’m thinking of going to one of the schools and you can learn to do it.
My passion is cars and V12 engines and motorcycles and I’m interested in the Knights Templar. The knights protected the pilgrims in the 12th and 13th century. I’ve just came back from walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain last year – we walked 800 kilometres across Spain – but the original Camino was protected by these Knights Templar. They built 6000 churches in 200 years in Spain and France and Europe and the Middle East. They were set up, just like I’m trying to do with philanthropy, to do good work and they lived to look after the pilgrims and they were very deeply religious.
Do you have a favourite cafe or eatery?
Probably Candied. It has all these yummy cakes and yummy coffee.
What makes you laugh?
The thought of finding a nice woman.
