A Footscray early-parenting support organisation will throw open its doors later this month to explain and demonstrate its services to new parents.

Tweddle’s inaugural open day will be part of its Children’s Week celebrations, offering parents the chance to learn more about its support services.

The centre, which has been operating in Footscray for 95 years, helps more than 4000 families each year.

The open day will feature hourly tours of the centre, as well as a free barbecue, craft activities, music and reading sessions.

Clinical services and nursing director Kirsty Evans says the open day will be a chance for curious families to learn why Tweddle’s work is so important.

“Many people don’t know we have 24 bedrooms here at Footscray or that our intake telephone support team speaks with over 80 families a week. Even the fact that over 20 mums, dads and their babies and toddlers stay with us every fortnight for between five and 10 days isn’t well known,” Ms Evans said.

“Parents will be able to ask specialist Tweedle clinical staff questions about our programs.”

The open day is Friday, October 28, from 11am-2pm at 53 Adelaide Street, Footscray.
