Two thousand indigenous trees and shrubs will be planted at Truganina Park in Altona Meadows for National Tree Day on July 31.

Hobsons Bay council and Planet Ark are inviting residents to join in from 10am-1pm.

Mayor Peter Hemphill said the family-friendly event was a fun way for the community to connect with nature and each other.

“The National Tree Day plantings follow the recent planting of almost 4000 native tubestock at Truganina Park, thanks to funding from the One Million Trees project, an initiative facilitated by City West Water and Greening the West,” he said.

Several other plantings have been organised across Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong, including at the Newport foreshore, Skeleton Creek and Cruickshank Park.
