Victoria University Secondary College: Inspiring students to play their part in creating the future

Inspiring students to play their part in creating the future, Victoria University Secondary College helps students achieve success, respect themselves and others and strengthen community involvement.

College principal Genevieve Simson says the college offers high-quality education for all interests and abilities, and that students are encouraged to take control of their futures and accept responsibility.

“Our role is to equip students with the right tools and support to help them succeed in achieving their goals,” she said.

“We encourage students to set their goals and to work hard to achieve them.”

The co-educational government college for years 7 to 12 is set over three campuses and offers an array of programs.

Designed to help students prepare for VCE, tertiary education and work, the college offers the Advancement Via Individual Determination program, which has had great success.

“We have strong partnerships with several organisations and many offer opportunities for students to gain scholarships, be mentored by professionals, tour a wide variety of businesses and learn about many careers first hand,” Ms Simson said.

The college’s partnership with Victoria University allows university teachers to run building and construction and electrical Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at the college’s trade training centre.

For high-achieving students, there’s opportunities to begin their university degrees at VU while completing VCE.

On July 20, VUSC will be holding The Later Years Expo, offering students and parents the chance to chat with teachers and help them decide on subjects, while also providing valuable information on VCE and VCAL Certificate courses, electives available and VET subjects.

The college’s vibrant performing arts and music program, sports academy and leadership programs also reflect the school’s commitment to achieving success. On average, 97 per cent of VUSC students receive a university or TAFE offer.

A Student Showcase will follow the Later Years Expo, with students showcasing their singing, musical performances and drama plays. A light supper and refreshments will be provided. Scholarships for Year 10 are available for entry in 2017.
