Laverton P-12 College had some 100 year old visitors to celebrate their prep cohort’s first 100 days of schooling on Friday, July 14.
Only the senior citizens were not century old locals, but actually the prep kids dressed up in their best elderly get up.
Graduate teacher Rebekah Hawkins said parents, teachers and kids spent the day participating in activities focused on being 100 years old.
“All of the students got an award for their new achievement, we also put on a presentation for the parents to show them what their kids have done throughout the year,” she said.
“Students enjoyed writing on the whiteboard with the help of their parents to show us what their favourite memory of prep has been so far.
“Maths was a stand out favourite of the kids, as well as the bucket fillers activity which promotes emotional learning.
“Some of the achievements include the kids starting to write on their own, the kids learning how to be friends with one another and learning how to make sure everyone is happy and safe,”
Some of the other children’s favourite memories included playing with my friends said Estella, learning maths said Franky, learning to read said Wajid, being at school said Boo Boo, having fun with numbers said Kristian and learning so many different things said Hawa.
This was the first time Ms Hawkins has experienced her first 100 years day, but the school runs this activity every year.
“The kids always always really like it and the parents do too. All day the kids were running around in their outfits, it’s a lot of fun for everyone.”
