A group of Footscray students has raised disability awareness among fellow students in a special day of activities at Yarraville Special Developmental School.
The year 9 Footscray City Secondary College students organised a series of activities at the Yarraville school last Wednesday as part of their community learning project.
The day comes ahead of International Day of People with Disability on December 3.
Student Nadire Thomas Capar said the project included arts and crafts as well as outdoor games and sports. “The day allowed those students taking part to gain a better understanding of the challenges facing people with disabilities and to raise awareness among their peers at Footscray City Secondary College,” she said.
“The two schools have worked together on community action projects in the past and this day will further strengthen the link between the two school communities.”
The project is the final part of a leadership program for the students.
