One of the most ambitious mural projects undertaken in Footscray is officially under way.
Footscray animator and community artist Christie Anditama Widiarto is spearheading the animated wall mural project, a community-based arts project addressing graffiti and vandalism in the suburb.
Widiarto’s idea is to create an ‘animated’ painted wall mural, based on the work of Italian street artist Blu.
After a trial project at Footscray Arts Centre Widiarto’s creative team is unleashing its work on the lengthy side wall of the Footscray Betta Home Living store on Donald Street.
Participants are painting repeated layers of the mural with slight changes to create a sense of movement, all captured through a series of photographs edited together to form an animation, telling some of Footscray’s stories.
Widiarto said funds were being raised through a Pozible campaign and all donations of paint to the project were welcome.
