Brooklyn industrial land in line for east-west link

Industrial land in Brooklyn could be acquired by the state government as it commits to building the western section of the east-west link.

The federal government will contribute $1.5 billion to the project, which is expected to create 3000 jobs during construction. The state government’s contribution will be outlined in the May 6 budget.

The state government expects the project to take car and truck traffic off local streets in the inner west and improve Melbourne’s traffic flow.

Greens deputy leader and Melbourne MP Adam Bandt said building more roads to cure congestion “is like loosening your belt to cure obesity”.
