UPDATE: An overweight man charged with murdering his father could be vulnerable in custody because of his appearance, a court has been told.
George Pedevski, 49, was on Monday charged with one count of murder after the body of a 79-year-old man was found in the backyard of a Yarraville property on Sunday.
“Hello magistrate, my name is George Pedevski,” the accused man said when led in to Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday for a brief appearance.
Defence counsel Trieu Huynh said Mr Pedevski had never been in custody before and that arrangements had been made for him to see a psychiatric nurse.
Mr Huynh said he also had concerns the accused man would be vulnerable in custody given his appearance.
Mr Pedevski was wearing a short white T-shirt which left a lot of his stomach exposed. He was remanded in custody to return to court in February.
