State election | Footscray: Labor’s Marsha Thomson headed to victory

Labor’s Marsha Thomson is headed to victory in the safe Labor seat of Footscray, securing 46.87 per cent of votes by 9pm.

Liberals’ Vu Kim was at 25.39 per cent, and Rod Swift of the Greens at 17.25 per cent.

Voice for the West sat at 2.65 per cent, while independent Catherine Cumming was at 7.85 per cent.

Ms Thomson said she was overwhelmed with the wide support she was receiving.

“Hopefully tonight we see a Labor victory,” she said.

“It’s so important for us in the west because it means we can build our education precincts, we can build our hospitals, we can actually provide people with the support they need when they need it.’’

Ms Thomson said she felt wide support at the polling booths and that they wanted Labor to get things going for them again.

“I just hope that in the next four years, we will make a difference for the people for the better.’’

Ms Thomson promised the people of Footscray that Labor would work every day to ensure their needs  are met.

“We want to deliver what we promised.

“Thank you to everyone who voted for Labor, so that we could deliver for them,” said an emotional Ms Thomson.

“It’s about putting people first.’’
