Homicide detectives have uncovered footage which shows a twin-cab utility following the Peugeot of a man whose body was later found in the boot of the burnt-out car in Diggers Rest last year.
Investigators believe the CCTV images could be the breakthrough they needed as they continue to probe the death of Footscray man Kenan Balikel.
Mr Balikel’s charred body was found in the boot of his car on Bulla-Diggers Rest road at 12.20am on October 31.
The CCTV footage shows the ute, which had a hard top canopy, travelling behind Mr Balikel’s car on Mickleham Road, Tullamarine, about 11.40pm.
Both vehicles continued to travel north along the Tullamarine Freeway.
Detective Senior Sergeant Stuart Bailey said police believed Mr Balikel was murdered in the vicinity of Freight Road sometime before 3 and 4pm on October 30. They believe his body was later taken to Diggers Rest in the boot of his car.
”We are hoping that someone with information or the person or persons in the four-wheel-drive will come forward,” Detective Senior Sergeant Bailey said.
