Victoria University sports students are heading behind the scenes at one of the world’s top football clubs, Real Madrid.
In an Australian first, VU and Real Madrid Graduate School Universidad Europea have signed a five-year deal to embed masters students at the Spanish school and club.
VU vice chancellor Peter Dawkins said the partnership cements VU’s position as Australia’s leading sports university.
“Most people can only dream about seeing how one of the most successful sporting clubs in the world functions from the inside and asking questions directly to its staff, but that is exactly what we are offering at VU.”
Dean of college of sport and exercise science Hans Westerbeek said the partnership also brings some of the world’s most highly-regarded sports educators to VU classes.
“This means students will learn from a strengthened teaching staff throughout the duration of their degrees.”
Legendary Real Madrid striker Emilio ‘The Vulture’ Butragueño, now a club director, said the club was excited to be working with its first Australian partner.
“We are very much looking forward to learning from their staff as well as sharing our knowledge with students.”
Master of sports science (football performance) and master of sport business and integrity programs enrolments close on Friday.
