Newport RSL members have good reason for cheer after local trainees built and installed the club’s new bar for free.
The Trade Institute of Victoria (TIV) in Williamstown North donated all materials and labour for the project.
RSL vice-president Ron Williams said the club had lacked the funds to replace its bar, which had not aged well.
“The other bar had been there, to my knowledge, about 50 years and it didn’t look very attractive.”
He described the work done by trainees as “absolutely beautiful”.
“They’ve been very good. I couldn’t hold them in higher esteem – they’re excellent.”
TIV business development manager Jason Pickles said when they learned the RSL needed to replace its bar, trainees leapt at the chance.
“We always look for opportunities to help places and facilities out. Our trainees are all fully-qualified tradespeople so they’re more than capable.”
