UPDATE: A killer is still on the run after a man was ambushed and shot dead in the driveway of his mother’s home in Altona Meadows.
Khaled Abu Hasna, 39, had just pulled into the driveway of his mother’s Lewin Court home about 1.50am on Sunday when he was gunned down.
It is believed the drive-by shooting was gang related, with police saying Mr Hasna was known to police.
The Lebanese immigrant, who was also known as Karl, was a father of six, a grieving relative told media at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Sol Solomon described the shooting as a “targeted attack”, but said police were yet to identify any suspects.
“It would appear he was targeted and ambushed as he arrived at the premises,” he said.
“It is too early to say if he knew the gunman.”
Neighbours in the quiet suburban cul-de-sac called triple-0 after hearing the shots, but no one saw the gunman.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Mr Hasna with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics tried to revive Mr Hasna, but he died at the scene.
Detectives blocked off Lewin Court on Sunday morning as ballistics experts searched Mr Hasna’s silver Mercedes sedan for forensic evidence.
Mr Hasna was on his own when he was murdered, but there were about four or five members of his family, including his mother, inside the house, police said.
His mother was “extremely traumatised”, but agreed to go to the local police station to help detectives with their investigation.
“[She] is currently assisting us with our inquiries at a police station. She is extremely traumatised and you can imagine how she is feeling at this point in time, having lost her son,” Detective Solomon said on Sunday.
