Altona Meadows brawl: Police interviewing six men

UPDATE: Police are continuing to interview two groups of men involved in a brawl at Altona Meadows on Tuesday night.

Police say there was a collision between a motorcycle and a car before a fight involving six or more men broke out near La Porchetta pizza restaurant.

The crash happened in Merton Street about 9.20pm.

Residents reported that bats were produced during the fracas after a man was knocked off his motorbike.

Hobsons Bay inspector Richard Paterson said no one was arrested at the time and police were still taking witness statements.

“There’s several witnesses who are being spoken to over the next few days, just trying to get a picture of actually what’s happened,” he said.

“We’re not too sure how they’ve all met up.”

He said police were speaking to six men but more may have been involved in the incident.

“There could be more than that,” Inspector Paterson said.

“All those six may not be directly involved.

“We can’t confirm who the motorcyclist rider is; that’s the information we’re trying to get from the witnesses – which person was actually doing what.”

No one was injured during the brawl and the investigation is ongoing.

Police say there is nothing to suggest the incident is related to a nearby shooting on April 19.

Khaled Abuhasna, 39, was shot dead after pulling into the driveway of his mother’s Lewin Court home and his killer has not been found.
