Chris Cormack has again enjoyed the sweet taste of international success.
Tylden’s Pegeric Wines took home three trophies at the 2019 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition earlier this month.
The vineyard’s 2008 pinot noir won a trophy for best wine paired with a Vietnamese coconut layer cake and the 2018 riesling was awarded two trophies for the best wine paired tempura shrimp and hai nan chicken rice.
Vineyard owner Mr Cormack said he was thrilled with his achievements.
“It was pretty amazing,” he said. “Just to win a medal is good. To win a trophy is even better.
“I’ve got about 1.5 hectares of vines and I was competing against some of the biggest wineries in the world. The competition is highly regarded around the world.”
Pegeric Wines is no stranger to success at the international competition. Its 2007 pinot noir won the trophy for the best wine with Korean grilled beef at the competition last year.
“It’s one of the only competitions in the world where you can have wine and food matching,” Mr Cormack said.
“It’s good to compete on the world stage and not just against your peers.”
The wine lover said he had his sights set on next year’s competition.
“Hong Kong is one of my favourite cities in the world,” he said.
“It’s a fusion of all different foods and wine types. It has quite a vibrant food and wine culture.”
