Young shutterbugs are being invited to photograph natural wonders in a five kilometre radius of Altona.

Local photographer Ruth Schwarzenholz has started a competition for primary school children called 5kms of Natural Wonders.

“I started photographing amazing landscapes and wildlife and have got my eight-year-old daughter who goes to Altona Primary School to come with me and get inspired by the beauty of what we can photograph in our small five kilometre radius around Altona by walks and bike rides,” she said.

“Now our family of three are doing this regularly.”

She decided to start a competition to inspire primary school aged children to do the same.

Winners will be voted on by the public.

The first prize for prep-grade 2 is a Fuji Instax mini instant film camera and the first prize for grade 3-6 is a Canon IXUS 190 digital camera.

Gellibrand MP Tim Watts is sponsoring the prizes.
