South Kingsville community members have welcomed a renewed look at the South Kingsville Community Centre.

Supported with a West Gate Neighbourhood Fund grant of close to $500,000 and with a matching commitment from Hobsons Bay council, the works have included a refurbishment of the centre’s flooring, new painting and an entirely new air conditioning system.

Centre manager Sandra Wilkinson said clients and visitors have been impressed with the works completed so far.

“It’s going to be exciting,” she said.

“It’s been a trying time.

“It’s good that we’ve been getting groups back in.”

The second stage of the renovation works have now begun, with external upgrades now underway.

Further works would also begin soon on an extension of the childcare area and upgrades to the kindergarten playground and rooms thanks to a further grant from the Department of Education.

Ms Wilkinson said the centre staff were “really grateful” for the grants, which also contributed to upgrades to the centre’s toilet facilities and the purchase of new televisions.

She said works would likely fully conclude next February.

Ms Wilkinson said the group were planning on hosting an event to show off the upgraded facilities in September.
