Australia’s largest celebration of Albanian culture has a new home in Yarraville.

After 25 years in Footscray Park, the colourful Albanian Community Festival will be staged at Yarraville Gardens on Sunday.

Albanian Australian Community Association secretary Adzi Ceni said the annual cultural celebration marks the republic’s independence day, the most important day for Albanians worldwide.

“People come from all over the countryside to enjoy traditional food and music, making this the largest gathering of the Albanian community in Australia,” he said.

“It is also important for us to engage with the wider community within the area and present a little of our culture to those that would not normally come across our community.”

Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said the Albanian community has contributed to Maribyrnong becoming a vibrant and exciting place.

“Council is very proud of the long and close association we have with both the Albanian community and this much-loved festival and encourage everyone to come down and experience the Festival in its brand new home, the beautiful Yarraville Gardens.

The Albanian Community Festival is in Yarraville Gardens, 11am-6pm.
