Altona and Williamstown life saving clubs to take part in Pink Patrol

For the first time as a state-wide initiative, this weekend lifesavers from across Victoria, including from Altona Life Saving Club and Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club, will take part in a Pink Patrol to celebrate women in the sport.

The club led initiative aims to acknowledge and celebrate the many contributions women have made in lifesaving, and showcase the leadership capabilities of women and girls.

Pink Patrols will be held at lifesaving clubs and aquatic facilities across the state, with 36 host clubs and 16 aquatic facilities taking part on February 19.

Patrol Captain at Altona LSC Hayley Lindsay said that Pink Patrol is all about bringing people together while showcasing the amazing work of women in lifesaving.

“We want to showcase women and celebrate their contributions to the club,” she said.

“The number of women at our club has grown significantly. The young members form friendships, they come down and patrol together, that’s the best part about it, is the connections.”

Life Saving Victoria’s director of membership and leadership development Rebecca Schot-

Guppy said the Pink Patrol movement is continuing to go from strength to strength.

“If you can’t see it, you can’t be it,” she said.

“We know that representation is key, and our aim is that this positive role modelling of women in leadership roles, will inspire and empower future generations of women and girls, to confidently pursue the many opportunities in lifesaving, aquatics and beyond.”
