Boating facilities will be upgraded at 14 sites across Melbourne, including in Victoria.

The upgrades are part of the state government’s recently released Victorian Recreational Boating Strategy.

As part of the strategy, boating communities across Port Phillip and Western Port will benefit from a series of upgrades worth more than $2 million.

Funding has been committed to progress the development of plans for future upgrades of boat launching infrastructure at Altona. Concept plans and design reports have been developed by Hobsons City Bay Council.

The strategy was developed in consultation with boaters, and included drop-in sessions at key boating locations.

The strategy outlines a $1 million dredging grants program, aimed to help ramp managers fund maintenance where sand and sediment accumulation may affect access.

A $2 million structural maintenance grants program will also support upgrades to pontoons, jetties, ramps, and car parks, while $1 million is being provided to boost navigational safety on our waterways.

Fishing and Boating Minister Melissa Horne said that the development of this strategy will ensure “unprecedented investment is funding the right projects in the right places.”

“Boaters told us what their priorities were in their regions, and the strategy has acted on that feedback to make boating even better across Victoria – whether it be cheaper, safer or more accessible boating.”

Betting Boating Victoria will lead the project and will manage the fund’s distribution.
