A worker from Altona Coles has tested positive to COVID-19.

Coles said in a statement the employee last worked at the Pier Street supermarket on Thursday, August 6.

It said the risk of the worker having infected customers and other employees was “very low”.

However, it has asked several other workers to self isolate.

“A small number of team members who worked in close contact have been asked to self-isolate and Coles will continue to work with the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services to finalise contact tracing,” Coles said.

“Coles’ standard cleaning procedures comply with the federal government’s COVID-19 hygiene practices for supermarkets.

“As an added precaution, Coles conducted an additional deep clean of the store.

“Consistent with prior practice developed with the Victorian Department of Health, the store can continue to trade and the risk of transmission for customers and team members is very low.”

Hobsons Bay has 167 active coronavirus cases as at Thursday.
