End of an era for Altona Halloween house

It’s the end of an era for Altona’s most famous Halloween house.

Over the past nine years, Sandra Charter has decorated her Maidstone Street house for October 31, with the help of her husband, Grant, and their three girls.

But this year’s horrific display was likely the last as the family plans to move to Yarraville.

“I lived overseas for a little while so I experienced the fun of Halloween and I always said that when my children were old enough to walk I would try to get a Halloween experience for them,” Ms Charter said.

The first year, about 60 children came to the house to trick or treat.

On Saturday night, up to 1000 children dropped in, taking away the 1500 sweets purchased for the occasion.

“It’s grown and grown and grown,” Ms Charter said. “It’s chaos, but it’s fantastic. It’s so much fun.”
