Altona Meadows author writes about Enid and Her Two Mums

Altona Meadows’ Jessica Skogstad has written a children’s book about having two mums.

She is crowdfunding on GoFundMe to get Enid and Her Two Mums published in paperback.

The story is inspired by her niece, who has two mums.

“As an English teacher, I am very active in promoting regular reading, and this book is my way of spreading the message that it doesn’t matter whether your family has two mums, two dads, a mum and a dad or just a mum or a dad – as long as you have a family that loves you,” Ms Skogstad said.

“This book is my effort to ensure that my niece grows up feeling completely accepted by others.

“Being four years old, she asks questions about everything. So, with Father’s Day, came even more questions.”

Ms Skogstad said the book was also a way to help other children understand.

“My mum is a family day care worker and she looks after my niece, and the kids are always [saying], ‘My mummy’s here, my daddy’s here’, and for [my niece] it’s always, ‘One of my mummys is here’,” she said.

“Educating our kids on acceptance in diversity is ensuring a future where everybody can been included and have truly equal rights.

“I read to my son every night and, while we always look for amusing books, we also try to incorporate books that promote positive messages and morals –

Enid and Her Two Mums fits into that description.”

The book has been released as an eBook on Kindle. Ms Skogstad is crowdfunding to cover some initial costs of publishing a paperback version. A Facebook page has been created to keep people updated with its release date.
