An Altona Meadows nursing home has received negative COVID-19 results for all residents and staff tested after one worker became infected this month.

It comes as Victoria has recorded 317 new coronavirus cases – Australia’s biggest daily increase to date.

Department of Health and Human Services figures show the number of active cases in Hobsons Bay has more than tripled in the past week, with 47 active cases out of a total 82 on Thursday.

The infected worker at Benetas St George’s residential aged care had tested positive after working there while asymptomatic on July 3.

The home was subsequently locked down as cleaning, testing and contact tracing were conducted.

A total of 287 tests were carried out on 139 residents and 148 employees and contractors.

Benetas chief executive Sandra Hills on Thursday told Star Weekly the results were a relief.

“We are pleased and extremely relieved to confirm that after testing all employees and all residents, we received the results and all have returned a negative to COVID-19,” she said.

“We have completed follow-up testing of the close contacts and awaiting these results.

However, we are cautiously encouraged at this time.”
