Police are investigating a home invasion in Altona North early on Monday morning where a family was threatened at gunpoint.
It is believed three male offenders wearing ski masks and hoodies forced entry to a property on McIntosh Road just after 2.20am on Monday 5 January.
Police have been told that the offenders were carrying a crowbar and a gun which they used to threaten a mother and her teenage son.
After roughly 15 minutes inside the home the thieves removed a safe and then fled the scene in a white Volkswagen hatch.
The mother and son along with the four other occupants of the home were not injured.
No arrests have yet been made and police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area or has dashcam-CCTV footage of the incident, to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
