The Altona Cricket Club is ready to hit the next season for six, thanks to a new practice facility at its home ground at J.K. Grant Reserve.
Delivered thanks to a $90,000 investment from the state government’s Community Cricket Program, the new facilities included a six-wicket synthetic cricket net facility complementing the existing four-wicket turf nets and creating a multi-use space with the use of retractable netting.
Williamstown MP Melissa Horne launched the new facility on Monday, October 24 and said the improved facilities would make it easier for Altona’s cricket enthusiasts to remain active and healthy.
“With a big summer of cricket coming up, growing clubs like Altona depend on quality facilities that they can rely on for training and competition,” she said.
“The new cricket training facility will go a long way to inspiring even more locals to join in local sport, with the club now having the facilities they need to welcome more women and girls, train longer, and compete.”
Ms Horne acknowledged the City of Hobsons Bay for its $454,000 contribution and commitment to the project and Cricket Australia for its $30,000 contribution.
Altona Cricket Club president Darren McConville said the new facilities would be “fantastic” for the club’s programs, including providing safer and more inclusive infrastructure for the club’s junior cricket program.
