Community donations are significantly bolstering the skills of Ambulance Victoria (AV) paramedics and directly benefiting residents across Melbourne’s rapidly expanding northern and western suburbs.
The Ambulance Victoria’s Impact of Giving Report 2024-25 revealed that over $886,000 in community support was received, with $109,500 funding 27 new, high-tech paediatric resuscitation manikins.
These state-of-the-art training tools feature upgraded airway heads that accurately mimic a child’s anatomy, enabling paramedics to practice critical procedures like endotracheal intubation. The manikins are also equipped with advanced sensors that provide real-time feedback on CPR effectiveness via a linked app, allowing for immediate technique refinement.
AV continuing education lead Jodie D’Arcy highlighted the importance of this capability for rare paediatric emergencies, stating the manikins provide “a new level of in the moment feedback” to build competence and confidence.
AV manager Dylan Hall confirmed that this community investment ensures crews, including those serving areas like Wyndham, Melton, and Hume, have access to manikins representing all stages of life, from newborns to adults. This comprehensive training enhances AV’s operational capability, underscoring how public generosity directly contributes to world-class pre-hospital care for all Victorians.
