It has been a year since Zoe Gymer-Waldron opened the doors to the School of Sewing and Upcycling on Yewers Street , so to celebrate she is hosting a big first birthday party.
With a background in costume making, Ms Gymer-Waldron was pleased to join the team at the school.
“I bought the business at the start of last year, and so we moved into this big space which has turned into big creative spaces with tenants,” she said.
“May 15 last year was when we first opened our doors for classes at this new place, so it has been almost a year.”
Although the school has previously been running under Gaye Naismith, Ms Gymer-Waldron is excited to celebrate the new milestone.
“The party will run from 12-5, with the first couple of hours being more chilled out,” she said.
Activities will be sensory friendly for kids and families , who will also have the option to bring their dogs.
These activities include face painting, mini photo sessions and take home crafts.
“Later in the afternoon, we will have a DJ and there will be textile installation activities.
“There will be a collaborative yarn map, which will map out the community.
“There will be an innovative textile artist who will do an installation that is based around the old tea towels that you used to get in primary school with everyone’s different drawing.”
Ms Gymer-Waldron said the studios upstairs will also be open for attendees to walk through and check out.
“Gaye will also be up there floating around if people have any general sewing questions and want more information,” she said.
“It’s going to be great, we can’t wait for people to come.”
