Hobsons Bay council has released its annual report for the 2021-22 period.

At its meeting on Tuesday, November 15, council passed a motion to confirm the 2021-22 Annual Report, which aims to inform the community about council’s activities, achievements, challenges and financial performance over the year.

The document also reported on the progress of the delivery of commitments made in the Council Plan 2021-25 and the Annual Budget 2021-22, including 168 capital works projects delivered during the 2021-22 financial year.

Capital works highlighted included the upgrade of G.J. Hosken Reserve in Altona North, the refurbishment of the Altona Tennis Club courts, the redevelopment of the Brooklyn Hall, works on the J.T. Gray Reserve pavilion in Williamstown, rehabilitation of Aloha Street in South Kingsville, bicycle connectivity and pedestrian facilities improvements on Mason Street in Newport and sport facilities at H.D. Graham Reserve in Altona Meadows.

Other highlights of the 2021-22 financial year included the completion of the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre redevelopment in Altona, the release of council’s advocacy strategy and securing a pre-election commitment from the incoming federal government to fund a solar battery.

Hobsons Bay mayor Tony Briffa said the document shone light on council’s achievements over the past year.

“We achieved much in the 2021-22 financial year and showed our resilience as a community in difficult circumstances,” she said.

“Looking to the future, council will continue working with the community to make Hobsons Bay an even better place to live, work, play and visit.”

The 2021-22 Annual Report also highlighted the measures council took to address the global pandemic, including financial assistance measures to help businesses and sporting groups.

As part of the motion, council also received the finalised Annual Financial Report for the 2021-22 financial year, which highlighted a $28.72 million surplus – an increase of $13.435 million when compared to the prior year’s surplus of $15.356 million.
