Armed robbery charges

Police have charged four people following a series of alleged armed robberies in Melbourne’s west this week.

It is alleged the group were involved in four robberies at bottle shops and service stations in Tottenham, Derrimut and Tarneit on Tuesday, July 22.

Police believe that during each of the incidents, the group presented at least one edged weapon and made demands for cash, cigarettes and stole alcohol from the premises.

It is then believed they fled in a stolen Audi sedan and that no one was physically injured during the incidents.

Police spotted the vehicle on Leakes Road in Tarneit and with assistance from the Air Wing, it was followed along the Princes Freeway.

The pursuit continued through various back streets of Spotswood, Yarraville and Seddon, before coming to a stop on Chatham Street in Footscray.

A 20-year-old Glenroy man, a 19-year-old Wallan man, an 18-year-old Werribee man and 17-year-old boy from the Merri-bek area were arrested.

All four have been charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and driving offences.

The Glenroy man and Wallan man were both remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 25.

The Werribee man was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 16.

The Merri-bek boy was remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.
