Altona’s Julee Latimer is among 100 artists chosen to paint a UooUoo (pronounced you-you) sculpture to help celebrate The Royal Children’s Hospital’s 150th anniversary.
The hospital, supported by Wild in Art, is creating a public art trail in the laneways, streets, parks and public spaces of Melbourne and Geelong to raise funds in its milestone year.
“I was thrilled to be chosen and am currently putting finishing touches to my UooUoo in my studio,” Latimer said.
“Each of the sculptures will be placed in various public spaces throughout Melbourne and Geelong from next January to March to form part of a spectacularly colourful art trail, after which they will be auctioned to raise funds for the hospital.
“My UooUoo is named Sugar Rush and was inspired by childhood days filled with joy, optimism and handfuls of vibrantly coloured sticky sweets.
“Its design follows on from my studio work with dried paint. Each individual ‘blob’ has taken weeks to dry.”
The hospital is seeking businesses to sponsor each UooUoo. Latimer’s sculpture has been adopted by Nelson Alexander Real Estate.
