Applications are now open for Maribyrnong council’s annual artist residency programs.

The residencies at the Bluestone Church Arts Space and the ArtBox in Footscray and the Braybrook Community Hub, are open to all kinds of artists who live or study in Melbourne’s west or can demonstrate a connection to Maribyrnong.

The Bluestone Church Arts Space in Hyde Street is offering two types of artist residency programs for 2025, creative development or supported season.

These programs are designed for artists who are either developing a concept or an emerging draft, or have a rehearsed production ready to be performed.

The ArtsBox is a converted shipping container based outside Footscray library.

The short-term (six-week) residencies include a $1000 stipend to cover costs and are suited to the development of new work, the testing and exploring of ideas or the development of an arts practice.

Artists are encouraged to work on creative projects that use the Footscray library collection and or connect to its programming.

The Braybrook community artist in residence program is open to artists of all genres and mediums who can deliver a project developed with the Braybrook community that celebrates its people, perspectives or local environment.

Recipients of the residency are expected to work part-time over approximately a three-month period based at the Braybrook Community Hub.

Maribyrnong council will provide artist fees of $10,000 as well as working materials, and marketing and producer support.

First Nations and culturally diverse artists are encouraged to apply.

Applications for all residencies close on October 18.
