Altona’s art, theatre and music talents will be on show at the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre next week, as part of the Showcase exhibition.
Highlighting a range of works across the centre’s programs, including weekly workshops MonArt, the exhibition will be launched at a special open day event on Saturday, April 1 from 2pm to 4pm and open to the public until Thursday, April 6.
Centre manager Karen Ingram said the exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate the range of creativity and talent within their facilitators and workshop attendees.
“Without them all, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do,” she said.
The open day will include a performance from youth performing arts program provider Dramawerkz, which delivers training for aspiring perfomers aged between eight and 25, as well as a performance from choir With One Voice.
The exhibition will also display the work of deaf and disabled theatre troupe Echo Collective, which meets at the centre every Wednesday from 10am to 1pm.
Workshop facilitators will also be hosting two panels on connection and creativity during the open day.
Ms Ingram said there will be a number of works on show during the exhibition and the open day, including the regular Repair Cafe, the launch of the centre’s autumn program and the launch of the Emerging Artist Gallery, a new space designed for up-and-coming artists.
“It’s going to be a very busy and fun day,” she said
Ms Ingram said the centre will welcome a raft of new programs for the community, including gardening workshops, a LGBTQIA+ social group and creative writing courses.
“From 2023, we’re looking forward to re-energising our offerings to the community,” she said.
“What 2023 represents is we are starting fresh.”
